Game of the Year
Reviewed by TheDarkIsInMe on August 24, 2007 | report this review
This game is Game of the Year material. The visuals will blow you away. The story is very detailed, many of details you learn from audio logs; similar from Doom 3. You have many powers at your disposal, ranging from Electro Bolt, Incinerate, Telekineses, and Ice. The combat never stops and there are many ways to take down your opponents. The Big Daddy is the toughest enemy, and man does it feel good to take one down. I have beaten the game, and let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. And one hint as to what happens; everyone is not who they appear to be, and watch for "would you kindly".
best game so far

Bioshock clearly has to be one of the best games this year. Its graphics are by far unrivaled with any other on the xbox360. But they could have made it a little longer though. But besides that the game is awesome and i enjoyed playing it.
very great game

One of the best games this year so far. Single player was awesome, could've been longer though. The plasmids in the game are bioshock's best feature in my book. The graphics are incredible. The gameplay is incredible. I highly recommend it.
Pretty Good Game
This game is pretty good. It looked stupid, but I rented it to see if it was or wasn't. Well, it wasn't. The game has great graphics and a great storyline. You can do so many different things, such as burn people with your bare hands, and you can also search anything for money, ammo, or more. You can hack a lot of stuff, such as a Vending Machine, Turret, Security Bot and more. It wasn't as scary as I heard it was supposed to be though, but other than that it is a great game. It's worth the 5 stars.

I found that the hype surrounding this game seems to actually be better then the game. I say that because this game lacks in some areas. Don't get me wrong... this is one of the better titles for the xbox 360... but I had higher expextations of this game. It seems like they blended myst with halo (the ability to collect crap while shooting people up). The motion engine for this game feels identical to Halo ... and just like every other shooter that Microsoft releases. It almost feels like I've played this before. But this one has diffrent skins and slightly better graphics. I'd have to say that I'm glad that I rented it instead of buying it. At the rate I'm going, I'll beat it with less then 12 hours total playing time. Which to me sadly isn't worth the retail cost. That sucks because I was dying to play this game... and now that I have... I'm glad Halo 3 is getting released soon.

If halo 3 and call of duty 4 werent comin out at the same time this would have won game of the year hands down. But for sure it won the best game of the summer

The game is really, really good. It's story is superb, the weapons are decently balanced (though the grenades could be more useful), and the gameplay is decently good. The game is VERY linear, which I personally don't like, and it uses the "old school" FPS method of slowly accumulating more and more guns rather than just picking up and dropping them ala Halo. Again, I prefer the newer FPS method, but if you like the Half Life 2 way of doing things then more power to you.
The plasmids are fun to use, though I wish they had added more variety. The tonics on the other hand are fantasticly varried, and since most tonics have to be found rather than bought it adds a nice element of treasure hunting. The gameplay is good, but it really just boils down to an ungodly amount of fetch quests. I hate fetch quests. Never the less, it's still fun. The gameplay never really changes, it just gets more options. Concequently once you get to the last few levels (Olympus Heights) it starts to get REALLY boring and you'll start begging for it to end. The achievements are good, none of this "do this 100 times" bullshit you see in games like CoD2 or Gears, but it doesn't get the creativity you see in games like Shadowrun or Crackdown.
The game is great. It's not worth buying, it's the kind of game that you'll finish in about 2-4 days and a month later you'll see it on your shelf and think "huh, I remember that; that was really cool" and move on. Concequently I would call it a rental game (or a buy and resell on this site game), and it definitly gets the Rental Game of the Year award.
Sorry!

This game is incredible. The graphics are some of the best graphics the Xbox 360 has to offer, you can tell 2K Boston really pushed this box to its limits using all the power it had. The game also has some amazing scenery to take in of this under water city Rapture. The controls feel great and the gameplay is smooth. The story is excellent. One of the finest stories I have seen for a very, very long time. The game's creativeness and artisticness (is that even a word) are some of the best. The weapons are really creative how you can upgrade them and add some interesting effects. Another thing this game nails is the uneasy feeling you constantly have throughout the game. This game does sadly have its flaws. They are not big flaws but enough to stop me from giving it five stars. This is is deserving of a 9.5 but I can't put 4 3/4 stars. Now a lot of people have been complaining there is no multiplayer, but do you really want a multiplayer? The single-player and amazing story is all ready great, multiplayer would just be another bullet-point on the box. The biggest flaw is how short the game is. You can probably finish it in about 10 hours by blowing through it. The second thing was the low replay value, once you beat you probably won't touch it for a long time. Bioshock is an amazing game that everyone should rent, not buy, because of its low replay value and that its short game.
9.9
WHAT DO YOU THINK: Man people have been complaining that Bioshock does not have a multiplayer. Do you think it need a multiplayer?

I bought this game when it first came out. The hype surrounding the game was tremendous. The story was amazing. You can take two different paths depending on your style which was pretty epic. But in all honesty, outside of the graphics and story, I wasn't that impressed. The shooting style of the game was pretty weak. Not to difficult tasks to beat the game. Overall, I got a pretty dark feeling of the game, which I suppose was the objective of the creators. You are basically thrust into an underwater environment (not to spectacular graphics-wise considering not to many underwater games are made) and you fight your way to the end. The story is cool because it involves choices and overall how a "visionary" can destroy so many lives. In hindsight, I would have saved my money for the series of awesome games that were do out the last quarter of the year. I would put this game in "middle of the pack" for game of the year.

I was skeptic of this game when I first put it in my Xbox, but man was I blown away. The story is in depth and the aspect of the diary tapes really adds a lot of texture. The weapon upgrades and plasmids are fun but ammo is scarce. Overall it's a 5/5 and a must play for 2007!

This game is simply amazing, and deservingly is on the top of many game of the year lists, blowing most other first person shooters out of the water. Creepy atmosphere, upgradable weapons, smart enemies, and eerie sound effects make for a very entertaining, yet spooky experience. My only complaint is that the experience ends too quickly, and could deffinately benefit from an expansion over xbox live. Other than that, its a very solid game, and deffinately recommend it to anyone, even if you arent normally a fan of the FPS genre.
Love It
This game is some what scary, but OMG its so awesome.

Bioshock... What more do I have to say? This game is by far the best game ever made for the 360 up to today... From beating up splicers with wrenches, to killing Big Daddys with grenade launchers... This game as amazing graphics and more than one ending, which will definently make the gamer want to play through it at least two times if not more... There is really only one other game that competes with it and that is Halo 3... Anyway Bioshock gets a 5 out of 5 stars, so do yourself and GO BUY THE GAME... If you don't you're just nucking futs...

this is an awesome game. it has a great storyline and great graphics. the best part is taking on the big daddies and choosing whether you want to harvest the little girls or not. the only thing that is lacking and the only reason it does not have 4 out of 5 stars is the lack of online play. this should not deter anyone from buying this game though.
A delish adventure RPG
(another review from my homepgae blog) To start with, let me say that when I downloaded and tried this demo I didn’t care for it at all. I then heard the reviews and what friends were saying/raving about it so decided I may as well give it a try. I changed my mind quickly, this was a very well done 1st person shooter but in a slight change in play. For one, it has a feel of the old Fallout games; this old 1940’s world in chaos. I also love how you get spells, so to speak, to use with your guns and that you can level up these spells and weapons to make them more powerful. It also has two paths for you to choose, a good and bad (that’s all I can say without giving away too much). The variety in play in nice, the dialog and storyline is brilliant and it’s a fairly long game so you get your value in! The only drawback is that the replay value is fairly low, because when you play again you start from scratch and don’t get to use the items or spells your learned the first time around. I guess Mass Effect and others have spoiled me in that regards. The only real reason to play it again is to see how it plays out if you take the other path of good or bad. Overall thought I’d give it a $25-$30 value, you could try to finish it on a rental but you better have some days off work if you do!
If you haven't played this game. GET IT NOW!

This was one of the best game experiences I had last year. I actually was lucky enough to get it on this site last year. I played through it rather quickly. I recently played it over again just for the new plasmids and acheivement points. Still Awesome!
It is a superb first person shooter with a smart storyline full of twists and turns. Game play is fast, you have your typical guns, and you also have powers called plasmids. Mix and match guns and plasmids and you have a winning combination. Then you have bots, turrets and vending machines that you can hack so they can work for you. Collect seemingly non-useful items to create other items that can help you on your journey. The graphics are top-notch. The photography minigame adds some challenge but rewards you accordingly. The Big Daddies are a challenge, there is just too much to LOVE about this game.
It's definitely and adventure you will not forget soon. Get it, play it, then thank me later.
