To play as Luigi, simply hold down Left and Right when you start the game.

Secret Challenge Mode

While paused on the map, press L R L R X X Y Y to enter the secret Challenge mode. You will now be unable to go back to an area that has scrolled off the screen while playing a level. This cheat only works after you finish the game.

Mushroom houses at start of each world

The mushroom houses at the start of each world (the point with an arrow at the start) differ determining on the time you get on a stage.

If you get x11, x22, x33 on the timer, a Red Mushroom house appears, which generates items.
If you get x44, x55, x66 on the timer, a Green Mushroom house appears, which is a 1up minigame.
If you get x77, x88, x99 on the timer, a Orange Mushroom house appears, which lets you gain a Mega Mushroom into your inventory, thus overriding anything in it.

Warp Zone Cannons

In some worlds, there are cannons you can access (usually through taking secret exits). When you enter the cannon area, there will be a large cannon in the area, and a world number written below it. If you want to warp, simply drop into the cannon and off you go! Here is a list of the known warp zones thus far:

World 5 Warp #1: Take the secret exit from the World 1 Tower.

World 5 Warp #2: Take the secret exit from Stage 2-A.

World 6 Warp: Take the secret exit from the World 3 Ghost House.

World 7 Warp: Take the secret exit from the World 4 Ghost House.

World 8 Warp: Take the secret exit from the World 5 Ghost House.

After beating the game go to the small mushroom house at the 1st level, in there you can buybackgorunds for your bottom screen, they each cost 20 star coins.

Easy 1-ups

To get a lot of 1-ups, go to world 6-1, when you are about to beat the level, wait till a lot of bullet bills are by the flag pole, then jump on it. then you should get around 5-10 1-ups.

Unlimited Mushrooms (Repeat)

In World 1-1 (I think), there is your first giant mushroom. Well, to make this work hit the box with the giant mushroom and let it move a little bit. Grab it when you start getting in to breakable things. Keep running towards the flag (wooden looking boxes are breakable) and you should see about 5-6 lives depending on how fast you did this. Keep repeating this until you have the desired amount of lives.

Alot of one ups

Ok so are you low on lives. Their is an easy and simple way to do this. First you go into world one level one. In thier keep going until you hit a box that a super mushroom comes out. With that you wait till it hits the ground and run into it. Start running to the end of the race. DO NOT stop for anything. You have to be right on time, but those big boxes in the end can be destroyed. 6 lives will be rewarded to you.

To defeat the monsters at the end, get a fireball flower and shoot Mini Bowser. When Mini Bowser dies, Big Bowser will get very angry and will start firing like crazy and when he jumps up run under him and push the red button and the platform will disappear and peach will fly down and give Mario/Luigi a kiss on the cheek. Right before world 1-1 a blue mushroom house will appear and you can change the wall-paper where the map would be. Now you can save your game anywhere you want besides in th middle of the level!

On World 8 after you beat the skeleton version of Bowser once you're on the level with the rising lava jump in the pipe that shoots you straight up instead of going right go left jump on the platform wait until you are spinning really fast than hit the jump button follow the coins and you should land on the top of the flagpole and get a extra life. P.S. Don't hit the down arrow key when your spinning in the air!

How to get 99 Lives

First, you have to beat at least world1-1. Next, keep getting the mega mushroom. The more you destroy, the more you lives you get. Repeat until you have 99 lives or if you finally get bored of it.

How to defeat any boss in a second

You know how you can save an extra power up, such as an extra fire plant? Well try saving an extra giant mushroom and use it on any boss. Just run into them and they'll just die from one hit. One way to get the giant mushroom is to unlock those little mushroom houses that cost five coins to unlock. Then if your lucky, you'll get one by playing those little games that make you jump at blocks with the icons that constantly change.
