Good but not Great

Reviewed by gouldmember8 on December 28, 2006  |  report this review

This game is a glorified X-men legends 2. New (and better) characters, but some are pointless. The game has kind of an obscure story line. If you haven't read some lesser known comics, you might not know many of the villains.

That being said, there are some GREAT environments. Murderworld is lots of fun. Atlantis is an interesting experience because you're swim-fighting. That's right, swim-fighting.

Also, don't start this game on easy. Easy is RIDICULOUSLY EASY. Like no challenge at all. Try medium to start out with. That is, only if you like a challenge.

Here's a tip: For a GREAT team that supports itself, use Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Deadpool, and really, anyone else. Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, and Deadpool all have abilities that boosts the teams abilities. Therefore, the 4th slot is really up to you. I use Ghostrider. He's a beast.

If you played and liked X-Men Legends 1 or 2, you'll love this game too. At times it is both liberating and slightly frustrating that characters from the entire Marvel Universe are tapped, for there are duplicates here and there (the two characters that you have to unlock by finding statues along the way are pretty similar) and some of your favorites are probably not found on the roster, which includes Gambit, Black Cat and Punisher for yours truly. This was slightly fixed with the release of the expansion pack, but that was only for the XBOX 360, which alone has at least one exclusive character worth playing with: Colossus, one of my favorites! The storyline is good and easy to follow, though it helps to know a bit of the backstory. The cinematics are constructed very well, looking beautiful and downright cool at times (take a look at the scene when Loki approaches Asgard and you can see what I mean!) The little things are what make this game worth playing, and repeating: the numerous bonus, unlockable characters, alternate endings. To say more about those would spoil things, so I’ll close by saying that though the game may have its flaws here and there, and not showcase everyone you may like, in the end, this game is definitely recommended.

Finally a game for Marvel fans that isnt only Spiderman or Xmen. While I know those two titles are popular they arent the only cool marvel storylines. I think it's better than the previous xmen fighter games. you can team and have fanatastic 4 or the avengers in many different line ups. it's way cool, plays like the x titles. the story is ok. the character are what made this game for me, even though is still mainly play with captain america, thor, ironman and ms marvel or spider girl. avengers all the way
